GS1 DataBar Expanded (Formerly RSS Expanded - Reduced Space Symbology) Barcode - .NET Windows Forms

This Symbology is also known as GS1 DataBar-14 Expanded, RSS Expanded, Reduced Space Symbology Expanded

Overview
GS1 DataBar Family of bar codes
GS1 DataBar (formerly Reduced Space Symbols or RSS) symbols can identify small items and carry more information than the current EAN/UPC barcode (GS1 DataBar symbols will not necessarily replace EAN/UCC bar codes, as it will be left to the brand owner - the party responsible for specifying package design - to decide). GS1 DataBar enables GTIN identification for hard-to-mark products like fresh foods, jewelry and do-it-yourself hardware products and can carry GS1 Application Identifiers (AI) such as serial numbers, lot numbers, and expiration dates. This creates the opportunity for solutions supporting product authentication and traceability, product quality and effectiveness, variable measure product identification, and couponing.

GS1 DataBar is a family of linear barcode symbologies used within the GS1 System. There are three types of GS1 DataBar symbols, two of which have a number of versions optimized for different application requirements.

GS1 DataBar Expanded
GS1 DataBar Expanded is a variable length linear symbology capable of encoding up to 74 numeric or 41 alphabetic characters of AI Element String data. GS1 DataBar Expanded is designed to encode primary and supplementary data in items for Point-of-Sale (POS) and other applications. It has the same capabilities as a GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) barcode except that it is also designed to be scanned by omnidirectional slot scanners. It is designed for variable weight products, perishable products, traceable retail products, and coupons.

The user data to be encoded into a GS1 DataBar Expanded barcode shall always consist of application identifiers and data fields that comply with the data standard of the GS1 General Specifications, formatted exactly as they would be for encodation into a GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) barcode. The GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) rules for concatenation of AI element strings, such as the use of a FNC1 to separate a variable length element string from the element string following it, shall be followed when encoding a GS1 DataBar Expanded barcode.
